Google launches an AI coding bot for Android developers

Google has introduced Studio Bot, an AI-powered coding assistant that helps Android developers build apps by generating code, fixing errors, and answering Android-related questions. Studio Bot is built on Google’s Codey coding model based on its updated PaLM 2 large language model. It supports both Kotlin and Java programming languages and lives directly in the toolbar on Android Studio. Although developers don’t need to share their source code with Google to use Studio Bot, the company will receive data on their conversations with the tool.

While Studio Bot is only available via the Canary channel in the US, it offers an additional feature to Google’s AI offerings. This includes the recently launched Duet AI coding tool available only to Google Cloud users. Despite being limited to Android developers, Google’s AI-powered tools will continue to grow and expand, competing with Microsoft and Amazon’s AI-powered coding tools, which can be integrated into various integrated development environments.
